Types of Tropical Fish

Mollies are a great fish for someone just starting out. These fish are not aggressive, and you will find them in different sizes and colors. This is a popular tropical fish so you should have no problem finding one in your local pet store. One benefit of having mollies in your aquarium is they eat algae to help keep your aquarium clean. 

Another type of tropical fish is the neon tetra. These fish are a favorite because they are beautiful and come in bright colors. This is a popular fish among beginners, as well as the more experienced fish owners. They love to swim in groups so make sure you purchase more than one. 

The dwarf gourami is another tropical fish you can choose for your tank. They are small and brightly colored with beautiful patterns. To keep these fish happy purchase at least two of them as they are social tropical fish. 

Setting Up the Aquarium

The most important thing is choosing the right size aquarium and making sure you have room in your home for it. Talk with the salesperson about how many fish you are purchasing, and they can tell you the correct size.

Put a few inches of aquarium gravel in the bottom of the tank and then add water until the tank is almost full. Add some aquarium plants to the tank as well as decorations. Purchase decorations the fish can hide in. 

Before you put your tropical fish in the water, you need to remove the chlorine. If you do not your fish will die. There are water conditioners that you can purchase at pet stores to take care of this. 

Tropical fish require the right water temperature. To help you with this, place a water heater in the tank. Also, put a thermometer in the tank so you can keep an eye on the temperature. Talk with the pet store employee to learn the right temperature to keep your water for the fish you purchase.  

Next purchase the fish food and your tank is ready to go for your new fish. Your fish will be much happier if you take care of your tank properly.
