3 Features to Create a Fun Landscape Design for Kids

Posted on

When you create a backyard with children in mind, there are going to be certain things that you will want to incorporate into that backyard that you otherwise wouldn't. Because of this, you are going to want to take the time to plan and prepare a design that is going to fit the children and their needs. This article will discuss three features to create a fun landscape design for kids.

Cement Slab

A cement slab is perfect for a backyard for kids because it gives them an area in which to play different activities when they would otherwise have to play in the front yard, where it isn't quite as safe. Kids can draw on the slab with chalk, set up tables and chairs with shade umbrellas to simply hang out, or skate around the cement slab with roller skates on. They can also use this area for basketball if you set up a basketball banker, or this area could house a swing set that the kids can enjoy. You can even set up a playhouse on the cement slab.

Large Grass Area

Another fun area for kids to play on is the grass. So many different games and activities can be placed on the grass, such as kickball, baseball, tag, soccer, and a variety of other games. You can also set up toys on the grass, such as a trampoline, an above-ground pool, and so forth. Because of this, you are going to want to make sure that the grass area that you have installed in your backyard is quite large. This will give the children plenty of space to run and play as well as room to set up any toys that they might like. Just make sure that you install an irrigation system before you put your grass in because this will make it much easier for you to care for and maintain your grass. You can talk to a landscaping company for help with this.

Sand Box

It is no secret that kids love playing in the sand. There are so many fun things for them to do in the sand that will entertain them for hours. For this reason, having a large sandbox installed in your backyard is a great idea. To create the sandbox, you can use thick pieces of wood, poured concrete, or some other strong material to create the box for the sand box. You will lay these down in a designated area that has already been leveled out and cleared of any debris. You are then going to want to place down multiple levels of landscaping fabric to stop weeds from coming up and into your sand box. The final step is going to be to purchase the sand and have it dumped into the sand box.
