Three Ways to Have a Fire in Your Backyard

Many people find staring into a fire soothing. But if you don't have a fireplace, it can be hard to get your fire fix. However, if you have an enough room in your backyard, you can have a fire pit or a variation of one in your backyard. There are several ways that you can do this. 

Fire Bowl

One thing that you can do is to buy a fire bowl. These are fire-proof bowls, usually made of metal, terra cotta, or stone. They can be either shallow or deep and can come in a variety of sizes. You can set the bowl up on a stand, if it is small enough that a stand makes it easier for you to get to the fire. Fire bowls are a good idea if you have limited space or state or city regulations about fire. The fires are contained, so they are much easier to control.

Chiminea

A chiminea is basically a terra cotta fireplace. While they are often relatively small, they can also be rather large. Smaller ones can sit on a stand, while the larger ones have a flat bottom so that they can sit directly on a surface. The way they work is that there is a round part with a place to put the fire. On top of that round part, there is a chimney to pull the smoke up and out of the chiminea. 

Fire Pit

Another option that you have is to create a fire pit. You can either have it built into a patio or into your backyard. Your fire pit can be made out of concrete or natural stone. The nice thing about creating one made of natural stone is that you can get a rustic-looking fire pit if that is what you really want. You can have one that burns wood, or you can run a natural gas or propane line to it. If you do it that way, you can add something called fire glass to your fire pit over the gas burners. Fire glass consists of chunks of tempered glass that are designed to be fire resistant. They come in a variety of colors, and some may even have additives so that you have differently colored flames. Fire glass makes it look like the glass is burning rather than the gas inside the glass. 

If you want to be able to sit and watch a fire so that you can just relax, there are several ways that you can do this. Before you do anything, make sure you check the rules regarding fires for your city and state. That way you won't be doing anything that will break the laws. You should also make sure that you always pay attention to any burn bans due to dry or windy weather.
